9/11 A Failure of Action, Not of Intelligence.

“Nobody in our government, at least, and I don’t think the prior government, could envision flying airplanes into buildings on such a massive scale.” –George W. Bush

The most cataclysmic event during the presidency of George W. Bush was without a doubt the September 11 attacks that killed 3,000 people in the World Trade Center, but many people ignore the events prior to the attacks. On August 6, 2001 while on a ,lets say, well deserved vacation in Crawford, Texas President Bush received an intelligence briefing titled “Bin Laden Determined To Strike On U.S”. One very startling line of the declassified briefing states, “Bin Laden implied on on U.S television interviews in 1997 and 1998 that his followers would follow the example of the World Trade Center Bomber, Kamzi Yousef , and bring the fighting to America”. The document further stated that a call was made to the U.S embassy in the U.A.E informing,”A group of Bin Laden supporters were in the U.S planning attacks with explosives”The report continued by saying, “FBI information indicates patterns of suspicious activities in this country consistent with preparations for hijackings or other types of attacks”. The report made clear that U.S intelligence was aware of the threat hijacking posed to national security making the claim that hijackings were a complete surprise invalid .

Surely these sentences would come back to haunt President Bush, especially because according to ‘The One Percent Doctrine‘ by Ron Suskin the President told the briefing officer “All right, you’ve covered your ass now”1 after being briefed. Just nine days after President Bush heard the briefing the head of the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center Cofer Black, tells the Department of Defence in a speech, “We are going to be struck soon, many Americans are going to die ,and it could be in the U.S”.2

In August 17, 2001 C.I.A director George Tenet, visited President Bush while still onvacation to discuss the Al Qaeda threat. At first, Tenet denied this meeting took place to the 9/11 commission. When commission member senator Tim Roemer asked if he meet with the president in August 2001 Tenet responded: “He’s in Texas and I’m either here [in Washington] or on leave for some of that time,” Tenet continued saying: “In this time period, I’m not talking to him,no.”3 We would not find out that this meeting took place until 2007 when George Tenet published his book ” At The Center of The Storm” where he admits to the meeting President Bush on August.4 The question here is if Tenet lied to the 9/11 commission shouldn’t he be prosecuted for perjury? Last time I checked no one is above the law.

Most shockingly, the CIA traced two of the 9/11 hijackers movements, khalid al-midhar and Newaf al-Hazami, from Indonesia to the U.S on January 2000, but did not inform the FBI until August 21, 2001!5 Surprisingly on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 former White House Counter Terrorism czar Richard Clarke, said in a documentary that he thinks the C.I.A purposely withheld information from the FBI and the White House that two Saudi-born terrorists where in U.S soil. Clarke, claims that the C.I.A tried to recruit the two terrorists so they would become spies for the agency and infiltrate Al Qaeda, but the C.I.A failed to recruit them and lost sight of them. Clarke said that the C.I.A did not inform the F.B.I or the White House because senior C.I.A officials feared they would be accused of “malfeasance and misfeasance”.6Former C.I.A director George Tenet, denied this and said the CIA did not inform the FBI or the White House sooner because of communication problems, but since he lied about the meeting he had with President Bush in August 2001 to the 9/11 commision his credibility sn’t very trust worthy.

THE CAPTURED 20TH HIJACKER

Zacarias Moussaoui, is known as the captured 20th hijacker; he was learning to fly in a flight school located in Minnesota. Moussaoui’s flight instructors became suspicious of his intentions after telling them he was interested in learning to fly a Boeing 747, but was not interested in obtaining a pilot’s license so they called the FBI because they feared he was a potential hijacker.7 Moussaoui was arrested in August 16, 2001 by the FBI on immigration charges, since he was a French citizen that over stayed in the country. The arresting FBI agents soon grew suspicious of Moussaoui because while he was being interrogated his story did not seem right. After the agents grew alarmed they asked FBI headquarters for a warrant to search Moussaoui’s computer, but despite countless efforts FBI superiors told them there was not enough evidence to search Moussaoui’s computer.

The computer wasn’t searched until after 9/11 and in it contained extensive flight training information including instructions for crop spraying from planes.8 After 9/11 prosecutors found Moussaoui had a phone number linking him to Ramzi bin al-Shibh a Al Qaeda member in Germany and financial coordinator for the conspiracy, he belonged to the Al Qaeda cell to which Mohammed Atta (the leader of the hijackers) was in charge of.9 If Moussaoui’s belongings would have been searched rigorously before the attacks the 9/11 conspiracy would probablyhave been discovered, and the U.S put on high alert. In defense of the FBI, FBI director Robert Mueller declared: “There was insufficient probable cause for a [warrant], which appears to be an accurate decision.”10 Let’s analyze the validity of Robert Mueller’s claim for not having a “probable cause” to search Moussaoui’s computer.

FRENCH INFORM, FBI IGNORES

Zacarias Moussaoui wasn’t just under the eyes of the American government, but of the French as well. French intelligence followed Zacarias Moussaoui’s moves and realized that in a trip to Afghanistan Moussaoui went to an Al Qaeda training camp and France put him on their terror watch list.11 After Moussaoui was arrested The FBI was informed by French intelligence that Moussaoui had close ties with Islamist extremists, and gave the FBI a wealth of information on Moussaoui. Jean-Louis Bruguiere, a French judge and a internationally recognized counterrorism investigator admitted that the French cooperated fully with the FBI “We gave them everything we had,” says Bruguiere. “Or what we knew when these requests were made.” Unfortunately, FBI H.Q didn’t seem to react “We don’t only give general information,” said Bruguiere. “We have detailed information, we give as much detail as we know. If the FBI thinks that the information is valuable, that’s its own responsibility.”12 Is it possible that the FBI didn’t think the information wasvaluable? Was this not a “probable cause” to investigate Moussaoui more in depth?

FBI AGENT’S WARNINGS GO IN VAIN

Two months before the 9/11 attacks FBI agent Kenneth Williams wrote to his superiors the “Phoenix memo” in which he expressed his concern that Islamic extremists might be learning to fly in U.S flight schools to commit acts of terror such as hijackings. He suggested the FBI make checks of Arab students in flight schools unfortunately no checks were made and we would later find out one of the hijackers, Hani Hanjour, received flight training in a school located in Arizona.13 It’s strange that FBI would ignore agent Williams he was very respected by his fellow agents and a recognized counter terrorism agent. A former partner of Williams said “He is simply one of the best agents in the FBI and one of the best international terrorism agents in the world.”14

Another agent, Harry Samit, the man that arrested Moussaoui warned FBI superiors he suspected Moussaoui was an Islamist extremist with dark intentions. Harry Samit testified in Moussaoui’s trial that he was obstructed many times when he tried to obtain a search warrant for Moussaoui’s computer. After being denied the warrant he tried to seek help from agents in other countries, but his efforts went in vain. Samit said he wrote a memo to the F.A.A informing that Moussaoui might have a plan to hijack a jumbo jet, but that he did not know the full details of such plan. Unfortunately, his superiors at the FBI never sent the memo considering it a waste of time.15

A third agent, Eleanor Hill was very concerned that Moussaoui was a terrorist and also pushed for a search warrant. Agent Hill told FBI superiors that he was trying to make sure Moussaoui didn’t “fly a plane into the World Trade Center” he was told by FBI headquarters that, that would not happen, they would later see that it did.16

CIA TAKES NO ACTIONS TO WARNINGS

The CIA did not have good communication with the FBI, but they did with the French. The French magazine Le Monde published an article that detailed how French intelligence informed the CIA nine months before the 9/11 attacks that Al Qaeda had plans to hijack a plane as an act of terror.17 The French intelligence detailed that such an action could be planned in Europe, but mentioned that many U.S airline companies were potential targets the list included:American, Delta, Continental, and United airlines.

A few months after the French gave this information CIA director Tenet received a briefing memo in August 23 about Moussaoui titled: “Islamist Extremist Learns to Fly”.18 You would expect that after seeing how the threat was progressing Tenet would have done something after knowing this, but nothing was done. One last possible warnings both the FBI and the CIA had about an incoming terror attack was in September 5 when agents from both agencies had a meeting in Paris with French intelligence officials and were given further information on Moussaoui and his extremist ties.

NORAD FAILS TO PROTECT AMERICAN AIR SPACE

North American Aerospace Defense Command or NORAD has been protecting the air space of the U.S.A and Canada for over 50 year. Most of their time operating their biggest concern was that Soviet ICBMs would strike the U.S during the Cold War. NORAD was well prepared for a nuclear strike and contrary to common belief NORAD was prepared for a hijacking targeting the World Trade Center and other federal buildings including the Pentagon. Two years before 9/11 NORAD conducted drills that simulated planes being hijacked and used as weapons the targets would include the World Trade Center and the Pentagon reported USA TODAY. The drill that included the Pentagon was canceled because Defense officials said it was unrealistic.19 A White House spokeswoman came to the aid of the Bush administration saying the administration had not been informed of NORAD’s drills. Unfortunately on the morning of September 11 NORAD was conducting numerous drills and left the nation’s air space highly vulnerable. If we review the leaked NORAD communications with the FAA while the attacks were taking place we listen to pure confusion if what was happening was a drill or a real action.

What is most disturbing about NORAD’s failure to protect the U.S air space is how high ranking officials tried to cover the whole thing up not only lying to the American people,but to the 9/11 commission as well. A great report analyzing NORAD’s incompetence on the morning of September 11 was published by The Foreign Policy Journal written by Kevin R. Ryan in 2013. The report exposes how NORAD tried to cover up their actions on 9/11 and details how Gen. Ralph Eberhart was highly involved in the cover up.20 Gen. Ralph Eberhart took charge of NORAD on February 2000 and was the most responsible of NORAD’s actions. Two days after the attacks, General Richard Mayers told the Senate Armed Services Committee that no fighter Jets were ordered to intercept any aircraft until after the pentagon was hit.21 A few days later NORAD confirmed that military jets were in the air before the Pentagon was hit. When Ralph Eberhart was questioned by the 9/11 commission he implied that the Federal Aviation Administration or FAA did not inform NORAD in time about the hijackings despite claims from the FAA that the agency did. Eberhart said that if NORAD had been in the loop as the FAA said it did his men would have been able “to shoot down all three aircraft-all four aircraft”.22

The leaked “NORAD tapes” revealed years later that the FAA did share real time information with NORAD and Eberhart lied the the 9/11 commission showing that the air crafts could have been intercepted in time, but weren’t. Ralph Eberhart lied to the 9/11 Commission so he was punished right? Wrong in fact he was praised and labeled a national hero for his actions on 9/11 and had the new NORTHCOM headquarters at Peterson AFB named after him.23 Senator Mark Dayton was aware of the lies that NORAD was saying and declared in a Senate Governmental Affairs Committee hearing: NORAD officials “lied to the American people, they lied to Congress and they lied to your 9/11 commission to create a false impression of competence, communication and protection of the American people.” he continued saying President Bush “should fire whoever at FAA, at NORAD … betrayed their public trust by not telling us the truth.”24 Sen. Dayton is right President Bush should have fired every one who lied to the 9/11 Commission Including CIA director George Tenet, and Officials in NORAD, but he didn’t fire them and some of them even got promoted. The full report is titled “The Case Against Ralph Eberhart, NORAD’s 9/11 Commander”, I recommend everyone reads it.

Many Americans and people around the world noticed that the official version of 9/11 just didn’t seem correct after it’s fully analyzed . The 9/11 commission report just ended up raising more questions, especial when Bush nominated Henry Kissinger as head of the Investigation, a man that insulted the military by saying: “Military men are just dumb, stupid animals to be used as pawns in foreign policy.” The worst part was when President Bush refused to be questioned by the 9/11 commission under oath and without Cheney present. Lets remember that the 9/11 commission was created after a few widows pressed Washington to investigate attacks that killed their husbands. The biggest surprise was that Senator Tom Daschle was asked by President Bush and Cheney not to investigate 9/11 at all. Senator Daschle told Fox news Cheney told him “not to seek an outside commission because it would be a ‘diversion of resources’ needed in the war on terror.”38 This resulted In many people disbelieving the official story as it’s reflected by a 2013 poll in which 38 percent of Americans said they doubt the government’s official story of 9/11 and 10 percent of Americans don’t believe the official story at all.37

Years later President Obama would take his seat in the oval office. President Obama would let Robert Muller stay as head of the FBI even though he was the man most responsible for not searching Zacarias Moussaoui’s belongings even after the French sent Information about Moussaoui’s extremist ties. Muller also Justified the agencies mistake of not searching Moussaoui despite many FBI agents concerns that he was a potential hijacker.The vast majority of 9/11 victim’s family members are highly unhappy with the 9/11 commission report and still in disbelief of the official story told by the U.S. government. Donna Marsh O’connor, Mother of Vanessa Lang Langer who died in the World Trade Center said: “We are not crazy. We have questions. We demand answers. … We’re asking for a new investigation into the events of September 11th and this time a truly bipartisan, global–with families invested from the beginning, middle and throughout the end.”40 Donna is not the only family member who is unsatisfied with the report, Patty Casazza, widow of John F. Casazza, also expressed her discontent towards the commission “It’s hard for us to come to any other conclusion than that the 9/11 Commission was a political cover-up from the word go.”41 Daniel Wallace, son of Lt.Robert Wallace, FDNY had this to say about the 9/11 commission : “The government sent us the 9/11 Commission or I should say omissions, really. They sent us that. I read the whole thing. As I’m reading the whole thing; it was just incredible; the lies in this book. … It hurt me to read this book.”42 There are even former commissioners that revealed their nonconformity of the commission report. One example is Lee Hamilton, 9/11 Commission co-chair said: “I don’t believe for a minute we got everything right.” And concluded that the report was only “the first draft.”43

President Obama has never even contemplated the possibility to reopen the 9/11 investigation and has made the 9/11 victim’s families feel as if his administration has turned it’s back at them. After 9/11 there were suspicions that the Saudi royal family and elements of the Saudi government may have helped fund Al Qaeda a short time before the attacks. The Bush administration didn’t look into the possibility and favored the Saudi royals over the 9/11 victims families making them upset.

After eight years of the Bush administration, evidence of possible Saudi government involvement of 9/11 increased prompting former senator Bob Graham who led the Joint Intelligence Committee Inquiry (JICI) into the 9/11 attacks, to express his suspicions of Saudi government: “There’s no question in my mind that the Saudi government was involved in 9/11,” the Florida Democrat told The Daily Beast. “But there’s still so much we don’t know. Unfortunately, many Americans seem to have lost interest.”45 But once President Obama entered office his administration applied the same policy as the Bush administration. President Obama’s administration in 2009 sided with the Saudi royals in a pending lawsuit filed by the 9/11 families. The Obama administration sent a brief to the Supreme Court asking it to dismiss the lawsuit and presented previous lawsuits against foreign governments that were denied. The brief concluded with this statement: “The petition for a writ of certiorari should be denied.”46 When the 9/11 victims families heard about this they were very disappointed of the position Obama’s administration took. Kristen Breitweiser who lost her husband in The World Trade Center said: “One would have hoped that the Obama administration would have taken a different stance than the Bush administration, and you wonder what message this sends to victims of terrorism around the world.”47 Reported The New York Times. President Obama was now showing a similar face to President Bush favoring good oil relationships with Saudi Arabia than Justice for the affected of 9/11. Fortunately, in 2013 a Federal Court of Appeals ruled to reinstate the lawsuit with Saudi Arabia being the defendant. President Obama can give this court case a good amount of evidence the problem is that just like Bush, President Obama has not released a 28 page report conducted after 9/11 analyzing the possibility of Saudi government involvement in the 9/11 attacks. Why has President Obama not released this report? What is he keeping in the dark? It is clear that that when it comes to getting to the bottom of the crime committed on September 11, 2001, Both President Obama and Bush had the same goal to hide the truth. Two different administrations, one same attitude displayed towards 9/11, to ignore the questions and the requests for a new investigation. Nothing presented in this article is conspiracy theory it is all fact and it only increases the demand for answers. Answers that our shadow government refuses to give the American people. To put it in President Obama’s words “The only people who don’t want to disclose the truth, are people with something to hide.” The million Dollar question is what are the heads of our government hiding about 9/11 and when will it be revealed?
